Today’s two-way radio solutions go far beyond simple audio communications. CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM and CALM+) two-way radio systems interface with other voice and data systems, providing a raft of sophisticated features designed to protect the health and safety of your employees and members of the public and improve communication.

Although they are accessible from anywhere via the internet, CALM and CALM+ systems are stand-alone not web-based. As they reside locally on your PC or network they are less vulnerable than web based systems.

As an authorised supplier for all the major industry manufacturers we can select from a wide range of products to engineer the best system to suit your exact requirements.

CALM Two-Way Radio Systems

CALM two-way radio systems offer the following features:

The CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) Man Down feature works using two-way digital radios that have an inbuilt mercury switch. If the radio remains horizontal for a period of time defined by the customer, for example 30 seconds, it triggers an alert. If the worker doesn’t respond to this alert within another 30 seconds an alarm is automatically sent. The alarm can be received by a central control centre, where the location of workers can also be monitored, or by another two-way radio.

In this way, should an employee have a fall, become unconscious or suffer an attack that has incapacitated them, help can be dispatched immediately. If the system has been commissioned with a tracking system too then the workers location can be readily identified.

CALM’s Man Down feature can track workers using beacons or GPS depending on the customer’s requirement.

If you are concerned with lone worker safety you may also want to consider CALM’s Lone Worker feature and look at our CALM Personal SOS Button, which is ideal for workers who do not need to carry a two-way radio but still require protection.

If you’re responsible for lone workers, vulnerable because of their working conditions, CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring’s (CALM) Lone Worker feature can offer the peace of mind that they are being constantly monitored and that their location can immediately be identified should they require assistance.

Two-way radios, working with the CALM system, can be programmed to sound a regular alarm to which workers must respond. Should they fail to do so, and they cannot be contacted via the radio, help can then be dispatched to their location, which the system constantly monitors.

So if for example a worker falls unconscious or is injured the system ensures that the alarm is raised promptly. Workers can also summon assistance at the discreet press of a button or even open the radio so others can hear what is going on in their location. This feature is ideal for security guards, traffic wardens, lone maintenance workers and all professions where working alone, with all the associated health and safety risks, is unavoidable.

A large clearly identifiable button on the two-way radio means calling for help is quick and simple and with a CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) system you can set up bespoke automatic responses that depend on the time, day or week and can escalate the issue if a response is not elicited at the first level thanks to its sophisticated alarm handling capability.

A CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) system allows you to respond quickly, appropriately and effectively to alerts and alarms.

Because organisations differ, each will need to respond in a unique way so CALM provides the flexibility to customise alarm handling by mixing and matching criteria to create an unlimited number of rules and responses.

For example, a different supervisor can be alerted depending on the time of day and/or the worker’s exact location. An alarm can be triggered should a worker or vehicle enter or exit a geo-fence. You can even integrate CALM with CCTV so that when an alarm is triggered, the display will automatically jump to the appropriate location.

What’s possible?

  • Recording voice and text communications
  • Monitoring staff availability
  • Logging all activity with a search facility

What’s the benefit?

  • Accountability. In the event of a claim, e.g.‘slip and trip’, a report detailing the response can be evidenced
  • Training. Staff reactions to incidents can be monitored to aid future training

Voice and Text Recording

Just as many companies will now record telephone conversations to ensure the legal protection of their staff and organisation, in these litigious days many choose to enable their radios with voice and text recording. If your staff members are likely to find themselves in a difficult situation where they may later be challenged in court, the capacity to refer to recorded evidence could save months of expensive litigation. Traffic wardens and transport staff are among the clients who benefit from this feature.

On and Off Duty Monitoring

With CALM it is easy to see at a glance which radios are on or off at any one time. Rather than wasting time unsuccessfully trying to reach an employee whose radio is off, you can easily see who else is nearby and able to respond.

Reporting

CALM provides extensive reporting capabilities. It can record all activity, including the location and route of radios during a shift as well as all messages and conversations, and allow you access the information easily. For example, you can easily check when radios were on and off and trace back arrival times and routes of employees such as refuse collectors, traffic wardens and security guards.

The external GPS/ automatic vehicle location (AVL) tracking feature enables the digital mobile radios (DMR), hand portable or mobile, to serve as a GPS tracker so that the location of an individual or vehicle can be immediately identified. Not only does this have security implications – for example vehicle radios can be set up to trigger an alarm should a vehicle move between certain hours or outside a designated area, or help can be dispatched to the exact location in case of an individual in need of assistance – but it also enables you to monitor progress along a route and estimate arrival times.

Local council refuse collection and gritting services, commercial couriers and security companies are among the many customers who benefit from the GPS/AVL feature.

CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) systems allow you to establish geo-fences around a particular area and triggers an alarm if a radio passes into or out of it – this is particularly useful, for example, in restricting access to hazardous areas or in the case of AVLs, detecting vehicle thefts from an unmanned depot at night.

CALM systems can integrate with your other data systems, so if there is an alarm from your BMS, SCADA system or fire panel while you are away from base, an alert will be triggered on the radio enabling you to respond in the appropriate way immediately.

What’s possible?

CALM systems can interface with:

    • Mass notification systems
    • SCADA systems
    • Fire and intruder alarms
    • Access control
    • Building Management Systems (BMS)

How it works

    • The system transmits an alert to specific or all radios
    • Automated alert speeds notification of an issue to the relevant people any time night or day

In some instances messaging or text capability has some advantages over voice, for example in noisy environments, when accuracy is essential or information needs to be retained for reference.

With the CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) text feature it is quick, easy and free to send messages to a variety of devices including PCs, mobiles, tablets, and other two-way and vehicle radios.

The CALM Text feature also allows you to integrate text messaging into the alarm handling functionality so that texts can trigger and be sent in response to alarms. For example, if a worker exits or enters a geo-fence area, the supervisor can be informed instantly by text.

With Voice Dispatch, a CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) system allows you to transform your PC into a control room radio so that you can talk directly to any radio on the system via a simple internet connection.

CALM+ Two-Way Radio Systems

In addition to CALM’s standard features CALM+ systems offer:

CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) systems can monitor staff movements outside using GPS tracking and indoors using Bluetooth beacons. Movement of personnel shows in on screen on schematics.

What’s possible?

  • Internal and external location monitoring of staff
  • Real-time reporting on an on-screen schematic
  • Automatic functions when entering zone
  • Reporting and audit functions

How it works indoors

Bluetooth location beacons automatically record staff movements

  • Battery operated or mains powered
  • Minimal installation, no external wiring
  • Can be sealed for outdoor use
  • Wireless programming

Information presented on schematics

  • On receipt of an alarm, the screen automatically centres on the radio user
  • Unlike GPS tracking, which provides a location in 2D, Bluetooth provides a 3D location, so for example in a shopping centre you can locate not only which area, but also which floor the radio user is on. A summary tab shows all radio users status

How it works outdoors

  • Staff movements are monitored using GPS
  • GPS is automatically disabled within the Bluetooth area and resumes when leaving. Personnel can be monitored indoors and outdoors on the same system
  • Information is presented on maps
  • No permanent internet connection needed

What’s the benefit?

  • Real time monitoring of staff movements
  • Reduces time taken to report an incident
  • Historic proof of staff locations if required

With this feature a CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring’s (CALM)  system can integrate with your telephone system so that any calls that are received at base can be patched through directly to an individual radio.
